1--What is the largest park in Manhattan? (This is too easy...name the second and third largest.)
2--What is the largest park in the Bronx?
3--What is the largest park in Queens?
4--What is the largest park in Staten Island?
5--What is the largest park in Brooklyn?
6--In what three boroughs can you can find a park exceeding 1000 acres?
7--Which borough has the most acreage of parkland?
8--Where does Central Park rank in the city's largest parks?
9--What park is pictured? Where is it located? (Hint: It has the largest public garden with unrestricted access in the city.)
1--The largest park in Manhattan is, of course, Central Park, which runs from 59th to 110th Streets and from 5th to 8th Avenues. At 843 acres, Central Park is larger than the next three Manhattan parks combined. #2 is Riverside Park and Drive (323.39 acres) and #3 is Randall's Island (273.38). If you want to argue that Randall's Island is not physically on Manhattan, then I will accept Inwood Hill Park (196.4 acres) for #3.
2--The largest park in the Bronx is also the largest park in the city--Pelham Bay Park (2,765 acres).
3--The largest park in Queens is Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (1255 acres).
4--The largest park in Brooklyn is Marine Park (798 acres).
5--The largest park in Staten Island is Greenbelt (1778 acres).
6--Parks exceeding 1000 acres can be found in Queens (see #3), Staten Island (see #5), and the Bronx, which besides Pelham Bay Park also boasts Van Cortlandt Park (1146 acres).
7--According to the Almanac of New York City, Staten Island has the most acreage of parkland (7287 acres). Queens comes in right behind (7270 acres). The Bronx, with two of the city's largest parks, is third with (6940 acres). Brooklyn, the most populous borough, is fourth (4,440 acres) and Manhattan, the most densely populated, comes in last (2680 acres).
8--Central Park is the fifth largest park in New York City. (Brooklyn's largest park comes in sixth.)
9--The pictured park is Fort Tryon Park, home to the Heather Garden and the Cloisters Museum. It can be visited in Upper Manhattan. Here's that same shot taken this past Saturday.
