But you won't find it in the Big Apple. Aqua is a new residential tower in the architecturally spectacular city of Chicago. At 82 stories, this is the tallest building ever designed by a woman (Jeanne Gang) and, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful skyscrapers. Read Paul Goldberger's article in The New Yorker about those brilliant white balconies that not only lend the tower its aesthetic elegance but serve multiple engineering tasks. Most remarkably, in a city as windy as Chicago, those balconies break up the breezes removing the need for the customary tuned mass damper.
