Harry Schulz

What about the tree on the northwest corner from which people were supposedly hanged and which on some nights people see ghosts of hanged people?

Robert Westfield

Did you see ghosts, Harry?? Ah, the so-called Hanging Elm. Most reliable sources now discount that as a myth. If it were a tree, it was located a couple blocks west, but it more likely that the people were hanged on a gallows. But that amazing tree is significant--300 years old and one of the oldest trees on the island!
